Emilie’s artistic journey predominantly revolved around creating monumental sculptures of grand scale and substantial weight. Alongside these, she crafted a series of smaller pieces. Despite their modest size, these smaller format bowls took on a significant role in her portfolio. To her, they represented life and death, beauty and destruction, celebration and memorial. Many were notably heavy and too large for everyday use, sculptures that vividly showcased Emilie’s intimate relationship with wood. Her use of chainsaw, axe, and occasionally fire exemplified her varied techniques for segmenting and reinterpreting the cores of tree trunks.
